Dub heroes Sherwood and Pinch unite for their second release, a session of weighty, Jamaican-inflected tunes which recall early dubstep at its raucous best. The original of “Music Killer” contains a sinking-scale bassline that wobbles with considerable heft, but the “Dubplate Pressure” version tweaks the effect to rib-cage rattling levels. The Machinedrum remix opens out the duo’s sound with velvety house pads and glittery percussion, documenting the way in which this cornerstone genre of British dance music has diversified whilst remaining true to its defining underground aesthetics.
